A placeholder for a new article in July.

There is definitely more to life than TOGAF, it needs to go on a diet.

As a TOGAF lecturer, it was always repeated time and time again that you use the aspects that add value to your organisation and your problems. The kitbag is now bulging with lightweight models such as the Business Model Canvas, and heavyweight models such as Bizbok. There are many others that all bring perspectives and tools of value, and maybe as important can guide an approach to appeal to the stakeholders that must be engaged.

Any piece of business design that is going to have an impact will need support from the top. It does not stop there as more than likely you will travel up the elevator to the top again with some bad news that there are issues with their thinking. I’m not going to engage in that piece of careful stakeholder management with 900 pages of TOGAF. How can we pick the best of the best and bring them together into a set of standardised tools that work for a client? After all, the problems all look very similar, but when the personalities of the individuals in that system get involved, it can all become very different.
